Juli 2007 auf der Freilichtbühne Margaretheinsel in Budapest vor 4.000 begeisterten Zuschauern statt. Freddie Gershon, Geschäftsführer von MTI New York (Inhaber der Aufführungsrechte) äußerte sich nach der Premiere enthusiastisch: „Es war bisher die beste Aida Aufführung, die ich gesehen habe”. DAS STÜCK Das Stück spielt im alten Ägypten zur Zeit der Pharaonen. In Sachen Krieg und Frieden haben Priester die Entscheidungen zu treffen. Das Schicksal der Besiegten ist Tod oder Sklaverei. Es herrscht Krieg zwischen Ägypten und Äthiopien. Aida, die wunderschöne Tochter des äthiopischen Königs geriet in ägyptische Gefangenschaft und wird zur Sklavin der Tochter des Pharaos. Ihre wahre Identität bleibt vorerst ein Geheimnis. Sie zieht mit ihrer Schönheit Radames, den ägyptischen Feldherr in ihren Bann. Sie verlieben sich prompt ineinander, wollen aber ihre Liebe geheim halten. Radames hat aber bereits eine Braut: Amneris, die Tochter des Pharaos. Sie kommt bald hinter das Geheimnis. Die spannende und tragische Geschichte erzählt uns das Schicksal der Liebenden. Diese Liebesgeschichte ist wohl jedem bekannt aus Giuseppe Verdi’s gleichnamiger Oper. Für die Musicalversion hat Tim Rice den Text geschrieben und Elton John die Musik komponiert. Die Welturaufführung fand am 23. März 2000 am Broadway in New York statt. Allein am Broadway hatten bis jetzt bei über 1.850 Aufführungen etwa 2,5 Millionen Zuschauer das Musical Aida gesehen. Die Produktion spielte ca. 150 Millionen Dollar ein. In der Broadway-Produktion sangen u.a. weltberühmte Pop-Stars: Toni Braxton, Michelle T. Williams, Deborah Cox. Die Produktion gewann in 4 Kategorien den „Tony Awards”: Bester Text: Tim Rice Bester Song: Elton John Beste Musical-Darstellerin: Heather Headley Bestes Licht-Design: Natasha Katz Die CD wurde weltweit mehr als eine Million Mal verkauft und gewann 2001 den „Grammy”. Im Sommer 2000 wurde die Produktion auf internationale Tournee geschickt. Darauf folgten Aufführungen in Theatern in Amsterdam, Estland, Kanada, Japan. 2007 wird das Stück in Europa in Deutschland bei Stage Entertainment und in Ungarn im Vörösmarty Theater gezeigt. All these different 'vocabularies' were able to add texture and color and support the story's emotional arc."
